- March 30, 2022, starting with the first seminar, scheduled to take place a total of 4 times by September this year
The POSCO TJ Park Foundation (Chairperson Kim Seon-wook), in collaboration with the Friedrich Naumann Foundation, held the first lecture of the ‘Global Citizenship Dialogue – Future by Us’ seminar series, ‘Smart City: Current and the Future’ on March 30, 2022 at the POSCO Center Art Hall.
Starting this year, the Foundation plan to create a brand called ‘Global Citizen Dialogue’ to run an annual educational project and they will conduct seminars and summer programs with the sub-theme ‘Future by Us’. Through a series of seminars, students are expected to grow into active and creative citizens of society in the future, meeting experts from many disciplines and conducting lectures and discussions. The seminar series, organized in collaboration with the Friedrich Naumann Foundation in Germany, will launch Smart City, which will host a total of four on-line and off-line seminars on smart city, climate change and technology, metaverse, and space.
The seminar shared the virtues and wisdom needed to think about what we need to do to become future leaders in Asia in the fourth industrial revolution, along with senior researcher Jo Dae-yeon of the Korea Agency for Infrastructure Technology Advancement and professor Oh Min-jeong of Sungkyunkwan University, using the keyword ‘Smart City: Current and Future’.
“Smart city is not centers of science and technology, but city and technology are tools, and smart city is the future of cities that will eventually make human beings better live” Mr. Jo said at the seminar.
The seminar was attended by Asia Fellows (international students) of the POSCO TJ Park Foundation, Vision Scholarship Students who are Fellows of Korean University Students, and Korean & German students invited by the Nauman Foundation. Due to the impact of COVID-19, only a small number of people attended as offline, and about 80 people online participated and interacted with speakers.
Lee Yeon-sil, a student at Media Communications of Busan University, a POSCO Vision Scholarship Student who attended the day, said: “As the host said, I thought about smart city as a very high-tech city with highly developed science and technology, but it was a very beneficial time because I got to know the general knowledge about smart city that people take precedence over such machines in smart city.”
Beginning with this seminar, the Foundation will be conducting additional seminars on the themes of ‘Climate Change and Technology’ on May, ‘Metaverse’ on July, and ‘Space’ on September in 2022.
