- Choi Deok-gyu and Sherkrat subdued the robber who stabbed the 60-year-old married couple with his weapon and ran away.

- Choi Da-rae and Park Jin-su jumped into the fire, woke up the sleeping neighbors, and evacuated them.

The POSCO TJ Park Foundation(Chairman Kim Sun-wook) selected the following four individuals, Deok-gyu Choi(50), Sherkrat(45), Jin-su Park(19), and Da-rae Choi(19), as POSCO Heroes and delivered plaques and scholarships on Feb. 18th, 2022.

Mr. Choi and Mr. Sherkrat, who were selected as POSCO Heroes this time, subdued the robbers who broke into a house, disguised as a delivery driver in Pyeongtaek-city around 6 pm on December 20th, stabbed a couple in their 60s with a knife, and extorted cash.

Mr. Choi and Mr. Sherkrat, who were working in a nearby car repair shop, pursued with a screwdriver about 200 meters at the request of a neighbor who said, “A robber with a knife is threatening me, please help!” The robber stole the vehicle and attempted to escape, but Mr. Choi blocked the escape by inserting a screwdriver into the front wheel. After that, the robber got out of the vehicle and threatened with a weapon to resist, but Mr. Shekrat subdued him after fighting. In the meantime, he was injured by a knife to the chest, but "the moment I saw the knife, I only thought that I had to subdue the robber for the sake of the neighbors even if I got hurt. I'm happy that I did a little bit of reciprocation for the residents," he said. Mr. Sherkrat, a Russian migrant worker, settled in Korea four years ago with his Korean-Russian wife.

At the same time, Ms. Choi(19) and Mr. Park(19), who were selected as POSCO Heroes, jumped into the flames from the one-room fire scene early in the morning, woke seven sleeping residents, and evacuated them.

Ms. Choi and Mr. Park immediately went outside to check on the smell of burning fire near their residence in Buk-gu, Pohang-city, around 3 am, on January 2nd. When they saw a fire in a nearby studio, called 911, and ran to the place with a fire extinguisher. They went into the smoke-filled building and knocked on the door one by one to wake up the residents. Ms. Choi and Mr. Park said, "We thought it was too late to put out the fire, so we just had to wake up the residents and evacuate immediately." Also, they said "we are happy to receive this award and scholarship. As freshmen entering the university this year, we will devote ourselves to studies more diligently.”
