POSCO TJ Park Foundation Hosts a Seminar on the Topic of ‘Future Society in the Post COVID-19 Era’

- Seminar cohosted by POSCO TJ Park Foundation and Friedrich Naumann Foundation in Germany

- The first seminar will be held on September 9th and will be held 3 times in total until October, 2021

 

On September 9th, POSCO TJ Park Foundation(Chairperson Sunuk Kim) has hosted the first lecture ‘Post COVID-19 and the Future’ of the ‘Restart 21, Future Society and Humans’ seminar series at POSCO Center Art Hall.

 

The seminar, which is cohosted with Friedrich Naumann Foundation in Germany, was planned with the goal of contributing to building a relationship between Korea and Asia, and even between Korea and Europe, where progressive exchanges can be made by encouraging multidimensional understanding of the current Korean society and discussing the essential values and key issues of the future society in the post COVID-19 era. The first seminar will be held on September 9th, and the total of 3 seminars will be held online and offline.

 

On the day of the seminar, professor Jongkwan Lee from Sungkyunkwan University and professor Jongkyu Kim from University of Ulsan talked about the new economic opportunities and creation of prosperity in the post COVID-19 era and shared the essential virtues and knowledges required to realize human-centered future around the key words ‘metaverse, ESG, and smart circular economy’.

 

At the seminar, professor Jongkwan Lee said “I want you to know that you have the opportunity to become a leader in this era of big change where we are all opening the door to the history. Instead of finding what new normal is, I want you to think about how you are going to create new normal.”

 

The seminar, which was cohosted by POSCO TJ Park Foundation and Friedrich Naumann Foundation in Germany, was held for the fellows from Scholarship for Asian Students Studying in Korea program, Korean university fellows from Vision Scholarship program from POSCO TJ Park Foundation, and the German students who are studying in Korea invited by Friedrich Naumann Foundation. Due to the effect of COVID-19, only about 20 people could participate offline. However, online, about 100 people participated and created the platform where the lecturers and the participants could interact.

 

Yeonsil Lee, a student from Pusan National University who is in the Vision Scholarship program, participated in the seminar and shared her comment about participating in the event, “I am grateful that not only did POSCO TJ Park Foundation fund our scholarships but put together a high-quality lecture and provided the opportunity for us to participate in it.” She also said, “I appreciate the lecture for becoming the light in the dark reality where many of the youths are living in the post COVID-19.”

 

Friedrich Naumann Foundation is a German nonprofit civic education institute with offices in 35 countries and active in over 60 countries. Since 1987, when the foundation opened an office in Korea, the foundation has been providing civic education programs on various topics such as smart city, transition to digital era, unification, and more.

 

Starting with this seminar, the seminar on ‘Economy and Corporations of the Future : POSCO’s ESG Management’ will be held on September 23rd and the seminar on ‘Future Technology(working title)’ will be held on October 7th.
