1. Myung-geun Mun selected as ‘POSCO Heroes’ for saving a drowning child from water

  

POSCO TJ Park Foundation invited Mun’s family to the POSCO Museum in Pohang on August 27 and held POSCO Heroes Fellowship award ceremony.

 

 

POSCO TJ Park Foundation selected Myung-geun Mun, an employee of Hyundai Motors, for jumping into the river to save an elementary school student drowning at the deep end in face of danger, and delivered certificate and scholarship on August 27.

 

Around 2:20PM on August 19, Myung-geun Mun heard an elementary school student floundering at the deep end of Dongcheongang River in Buk-gu, Ulsan, screaming for help, and immediately reported to 119 and jumped into the river without hesitation.  He promptly saved the child who was already unconscious and drowning in water, and performed CPR to save a little boy’s life.  The boy was moved to the hospital for treatment and suffered no life-threatening injuries, thanks to Mun’s prompt action. 

 

POSCO Heroes Fellowship is a business that supports any righteous person, who sacrifices oneself for the country and social justice, or his/her child to continue the studies stably, and actively selects public officials or citizens who set an example in society to increase social interest in righteous actions and create a righteous society where the members can help each other in difficult times.  It was established in 2019, and has selected total 12 POSCO Heroes until now.

 

2. Sergeant Dong-kil Han selected as ‘POSCO Heroes’ saving a mother and a daughter from an overturned vehicle

 

POSCO TJ Park Foundation invited Sergeant Han’s family in august 14 and held POSCO Heroes Fellowship award ceremony

 

POSCO TJ Park Foundation (Chairman Sunuk Kim) selected Sergeant Dong-kil Han, who saved a mother and a daughter who were trapped in an overturned vehicle, at the risk of an injury as POSCO Heroes, and rewarded a certificate and scholarship on August 14.

 

Sergeant Dong-kil Han of the 7th Division of ROK Army, who was selected as Heroes, discovered an overturned vehicle with smoke going up at the intersection in Sinbuk-eup, Chuncheon, and urgently headed to the scene.

In the car, a mother and a daughter were hanging upside down, injured, and the door was broken and not opening.  Acknowledging the urgency, Sergeant Han broke the window with his bare hands without hesitation, and saved them and performed emergency measures.

In this process, Sergeant Han suffered injuries including cuts on his arm by glass fragments.
 

3. Gu-hyun Kim selected as ‘POSCO Heroes’ for taking the initiative in social justice

 

 

 

POSCO TJ Park Foundation (Chairman Sunuk Kim) selected Gu-hyun Kim, who sacrificed himself for social justice, as ‘POSCO Heroes’ and rewarded fellowship certificate and scholarship.

 

Gu-hyun Kim witnessed a man secretly filming inside the skirt of a woman getting on a bus at the bus stop located in Sangdang-gu, Cheongju on June 29, and got on the bus with the determination to catch the offender.  He subdued the offender despite heated resistance and handed him over to the police.

Kim also caught an offender who secretly filmed a woman’s body through a hole made on a shopping back a week earlier on the 22nd. 

Based on investigation, the offender was a wanted criminal with an arrest warrant issued.

 

POSCO TJ Park Foundation’s staff stated that they “selected Gu-hyun Kim to honor his courage and sacrifice to catch the criminal despite getting injured at the time when digital sex crime against women is rising as a social issue.”

 

4. 2 courageous citizens who saved an unconscious driver from a burning car selected as ‘POSCO Heroes’

 


POSCO TJ Park Foundation (Chairman Sunuk Kim) selected 2 courageous citizens who saved the driver of a car, which rammed into a pier and caught on fire, and put out the fire with a fire extinguisher on June 9 in Sasang-gu, Busan, and will be rewarding them with fellowship certificate and scholarship.

 

The driver in the 60s, who drove into a pier in the attempt to avoid collision with a motorcycle, was suffering from a disability and was trapped in a burning car without consciousness.

 

Jang-hyuk Lee, who was selected as POSCO Heroes, witnessed a fire burning from the vehicle, immediately grabbed the fire extinguisher at the store he was running, and jumped into the scene to put out the fire.  Seul-ah Lee, who was also selected as POSCO Heroes, dragged the unconscious driver out of the car and performed emergency measures, and helped put out the fire with a fire extinguisher from a nearby convenience store.

 

Saved with their help, the drive was safely moved to the hospital for treatment and is recovering health now.
