POSCO TJ Park Foundation awarded scholarship certificates to 21 Asian fellows at the POSCO Center in Seoul on Oct 11 and encouraged them. 21 fellows, who were admitted from the fall semester, will study at Seoul National University, Yonsei University, Korea University, Ewha Womans University, Sungkyunkwan University, Hankuk University of Foreign Studies, KDI School, POSTECH, and the Academy of Korean Studies, and The POSCO TJ Park Foundation will support them with full tuition and living expenses (KRW1mil) on a monthly basis
POSCO Asia Fellowship is a 'in-bound' scholarship program that is aimed at supporting young talents in Asian countries, so that they can play a pivotal role in various fields of society such as working as government officials, university professors, journalists, businessmen, and diplomats in their countries after completing their master's and doctoral degrees at the graduate schools in Korea.
From this year, the method of selecting fellows was changed from the recommendation by the school to the method of selecting fellows directly by POSCO TJ Park Foundation in cooperation with POSCO's overseas subsidiaries.
Chairman Sunuk Kim, in her congratulatory address, said: “I am hoping that while studying in Korea, all of you have a great opportunity to get to know each other and understand each other's culture through the bonds and networks with Korean students, and exchanges and cooperation will continue, so that all of you can grow as young leaders who will be responsible for the unity and shared prosperity of Asian countries.”
The ceremony was emceed by LIU KUAN LING(Taiwan), who is currently studying at Yonsei University Graduate School of International Studies, in fluent Korean, arresting attention of participants. Aye Mya(Myanmar), who is currently studying at Ewha Womans University and Hui Hui (China), who is currently studying at POSTECH, introduced their country, and talked about what motivated them to study in Korea and their future visions under the topic of ‘Our golden future’ and ‘Time is flying’ respectively, receiving thunderous applause and cheers from participants.
In addition, Ulziibuyan(Mongolia) and her colleagues, who is majoring in music studies at the Academy of Korean Studies, performed Arirang and Mongolian traditional music with Mongolian traditional instruments, arresting the attention of all participants.

After moving to Pohang, fellows toured the POSCO Public Relations Center, Pohang Steelworks, and History Hall, and experienced the history of POSCO's development, from the construction of a steelwork in Yeongil Bay to the present POSCO which has grown into the world’s leading steel company.
During the workshop (2 days and 1 night), fellows visited Bulguksa Temple and Daereungwon on the following day to broaden their understanding of Korean history and culture. They said: “Through this workshop, we could have a good opportunity to form mutual exchange and network”.
POSCO Asia Fellowship is a scholarship program that invites talents from Asian countries to Korea and provides scholarships and living expenses to them, so that they can study at the graduate schools in Korea. Starting its Asian Student Scholarship Program in 2005, POSCO TJ Park Foundation has provided learning opportunities to 399 students from 32 Asian countries until now.
Most of the graduates have grown into senior leaders, including fellows who are working in the global companies and media as well as fellows who are working as government officials or university professors after graduation. In addition, POSCO Asian fellows have organized POSCO Alumni Associations in Vietnam, Thailand and Indonesia and are now working as members.
