As a part of the practice of POSCO’s corporate philosophy, ‘corporate citizens developing together’, POSCO TJ Park Foundation (Chairman Sunuk Kim) has newly established ‘POSCO Heroes Fellowship’ that supports grants for righteous people, who sacrificed themselves for the country and social justice, or their children to continue learning.
As the first recipient of POSCO Heroes Fellowship, the Foundation selected 3 firefighters that made a huge contribution in the suppression of forest fire in Gangwon-do last April, and presented each recipient with the certificate and child scholarship of 10 million KRW on May 13 at Sokcho Fire Station, with Chief Young Jo Kim of Sokcho Fire Station, Chief of Administration Hyung Min Kim from Gangwon-do Fire Department, Chairman Sunuk Kim and Executive Director Dong Ho Oh of POSCO TJ Park Foundation presenting.
As the first recipients of POSCO Heroes Fellowship, Fire Battalion Chief Hobong Chung at Sokcho Fire Station, Fire Marshal Byung Ryung Kim at Goseong Fire Station and Fire Marshal Jung Hoon Park at Inje Fire Station were selected.
Fire Battalion Chief Hobong Chung prevented secondary damage expansion to the entire Sokcho area by protecting areas around city gas control facility, and minimized casualties by evacuating patients hospitalized at Sokcho Medical Center.
Fire Marshal Byung Ryung Kim blocked the forest fire route from Gyeongdongdae to Bongpori and protected the safety and properties of local residents by preventing large fire that may have spread to residential and commercial areas, and public offices.
Fire Marshal Jung Hoon Park reinforced personnel recovery by evacuating construction workers and staff from nearby construction site and patrol to prevent casualties.
Selection of POSCO Heroes Fellowship recipients will take place through in-house selection by the committee operated by POSCO TJ Park Foundation and outside recommendations.
POSCO TJ Park Foundation will continue to increase social interest in righteous action and contribute in creating a righteous society, where each member can help each other in difficult times, by discovering and supporting righteous people that set an example to the society.
