Farewell Meeting of 2018 Asian Graduate Students who studied on scholarship in Korea

- 19 students from developing countries who finished theirs master's and doctoral program in Korea with help from POSCO 

 

On June 26, POSCO TJ Park Foundation held a meeting at the conference room of the foundation to celebrate students from Asian developing countries who finished their masters’ and doctoral programs at 10 graduate schools in partnership with the foundation such as Seoul National University and KDI.

This event was organized to praise the academic achievements of the Asian Fellows during their life of studying abroad in Korea and to support the community activation after graduation. 19 scholars including Gulmira, who earned a master’s degree in international studies from Seoul National University, attended the meeting. After watching the videos of their activities over the last years, they had an opportunity to present their graduation theses, the results of their life of studying abroad in Korea and share their thoughts. 


On this day, Mr. Oh, Dong-Ho, director, said: “I congratulate the fellows for graduation after   enduring the hardship of studying abroad in Korea and wish them to grow as next generation leaders who understand Korea after returning to their home countries”.

 

Ms. Trang (Vietnam, 26), who earned a master's degree in International Studies from Seoul National University, presented her thesis on the subject of “ The Effect of Overcapacity in the Steel Industry on Antidumping Actions against China”. She said: “I was able to realize the enormous influence of global POSCO while writing my graduation thesis and I hope the contents and results of analysis in my thesis will contribute to the development of POSC).”

 

Meanwhile, Mariam (Malaysia, 39), a government official from the Ministry of Education in Malaysia who earned a master's degree in the Study of Public Policies at KDI School, said: “I was able to broaden my horizon through studying in Korea and I will take the lead so that Malaysia becomes an educationally advanced country like Korea.

 

Ms. Lei Ling (China, 26), who earned a master’s degree from Korea University Graduate School of International Studies, said: “Thanks to the support of the foundation, I have been able to concentrate on studying and I will actively participate in POSCO community activities after returning to our home country.” 


Through POSCO Asia Fellowship, POSCO TJ Park Foundation invites approximately 30 students from Asian developing countries every year to Korea and pays full tuition and living expenses for them to finish master’s and doctoral programs at 10 leading graduate schools such as Seoul National University, KDI, Yonsei University, and POSTECH.

Starting in 2005, the POSCO Asia Fellowship Program has supported 352 Asian students so far and will continue to provide support for Asian talents to study in Korea and become next generation leaders after returning to their home countries.
