The Posco TJ Park Foundation held a meeting in the foundation meeting room on July 1st to congratulate students completing master/doctorate programs through the Scholarship for Asian Students in Korea.

This meeting of 14 people, including executive director Yang Jae-un and 10 students such as An Sa Yeong from China receiving masters degrees in international studies from Seoul University, featured two years of Korean international student life in photos, graduation thesis presentations, and conversation.

During the conversation period, the students thanked Posco for their valuable experiences in Korea as international students and for the scholarship program's support. Chen De (Mongolian, 31) with a doctorate in physics from Pohang University of Science and Technology, spoke of his dreams, saying, "Thanks to the TJ Park Foundation's support over the last two years, I've been able to focus on my studies. I hope to get my doctorate and then return to Mongolia to become a professor." Zamira (Kyrgyzstan, 26), who received a master's degree in Korean studies from the Academy of Korean Studies, said she had come to understand Korea more deeply while studying as an international student and hoped to contribute to the relationship between Korea and Kyrgyzstan.

Executive director Yang Jae-un concluded by saying that, "Even though you will all return to your home countries, try to grow as necessary talent and maintain your valuable ties with Posco based on what you've learned through your courses."

The Scholarship for Asian Students in Korea is awarded to 30 students from developing Asian countries and provides support for registration and living fees so those students can complete master’s or doctorate programs in cooperating graduate schools at 9 leading Korean universities including POSTECH, Seoul, KDI, and Yonsei. The scholarship was established in 2005 and has so far awarded some 10 billion won to approximately 300 students.
