  • Applications Open Through April 30 for the POSCO Overseas Fellowship

The POSCO TJ Park Foundation (Chairperson: In-hwa Chang) has relaunched the POSCO Overseas Fellowship and begun accepting applications to cultivate doctoral-level talent capable of leading the global era of technological innovation and knowledge-based competition.

The POSCO Overseas Fellowship supports outstanding Korean students pursuing doctoral studies at leading universities around the world, enabling them to focus on advanced research without financial burden. In response to intensifying global competition for knowledge and innovation, the Foundation has decided to revive the program to strengthen Korea's future competitiveness through the development of world-class researchers.

From 1985 to 2018, the Foundation consistently supported Korean students studying abroad through several scholarship initiatives. These included the POSCO Overseas Fellowship (1985–1994), which supported 71 doctoral students; the Bessemer Scholarship (2000–2008), which supported 16 undergraduate students; and the POSCO Asia Fellowship (2006–2018), which supported 102 master's and doctoral students. Many former scholars now serve as professors and researchers at universities and research institutions in Korea and abroad, contributing to academic advancement and technological innovation.

The relaunched program is open to Korean nationals who plan to begin doctoral studies at internationally recognized universities in September 2026. Applicants from a broad range of disciplines—including the humanities, social sciences, natural sciences, and engineering—are eligible. The Foundation will select exceptional research talent based on the academic excellence and global standing of each applicant's chosen university and field of study.

Approximately two scholars will be selected each year. Each recipient will receive USD 30,000 annually in living expenses for up to five years, along with a one-time entrance grant of USD 1,500 to help establish a stable academic and research environment.

Applications will be accepted through April 30 via the POSCO TJ Park Foundation website. Final recipients will be selected through a document review and interview process, with results to be announced in July.

A Foundation representative stated, "We hope our scholars will be able to devote themselves fully to their studies and research, achieve world-class accomplishments, and ultimately contribute to Korea's future development. The Foundation will continue expanding its support for nurturing globally competitive talent."
