POSCO TJ Park Foundation held a certificate award ceremony on September 19 at the POSCO Center in Seoul for 40 newly selected Vision Scholars from the Pohang and Gwangyang regions. The selected scholars will receive a living scholarship of 2.5 million KRW per semester throughout their university studies.
Launched in 2006, the POSCO Vision Scholarship Program is a flagship initiative that has supported talented individuals poised to lead the future of their communities and the nation. Over the past 20 years, the program has awarded scholarships totaling 7.8 billion KRW to 676 students. This year, the program placed greater emphasis on selecting outstanding talents in the field of science and also included students from multicultural families, adding further significance to the initiative.

In addition to financial support, the scholars have access to various opportunities, including participation in overseas volunteer programs, career mentoring, and local or small-scale networking activities, enabling them to broaden their networks and shape their future paths. During the ceremony, Professor Kim Hyun-chul of the Graduate School of International Studies at Seoul National University, himself an alumnus of the POSCO Overseas Scholarship Program (the predecessor of POSCO TJ Park Foundation), delivered a special lecture for the new Vision Scholars on “The Future of Korea.” Professor Kim encouraged the students by emphasizing that, even in challenging times, persistent effort and dedication will inevitably lead to meaningful achievements.

At the ceremony, Choi Eun-seok, a freshman at KAIST, expressed his determination, saying, “I aspire to become a world-class researcher in the field of science and repay the support I have received through the scholarship, while also giving back to my community and country.” POSCO TJ Park Foundation will continue to work with local communities to help its scholars grow as future leaders, providing tailored scholarship programs to support them in realizing their dreams and visions.
