This school was first founded by the government as school of Commerce and Industry in 1899, and in 2001 it became the first specialized public high school in Seoul. At this time, this school was, like other vocational high schools, avoided by students and society. Many students rejected to attend school and dropped out of it. However, even at such difficult times, many teachers and former principal Cheon aimed to make Sunrin, a school where students grant to come and study.

Under the motto of 'Spread your dream towards the world, towards the future' the school continued to develop, and taught students with specialized education programs that reflect various license systems, industry-centered curriculum, basic studies and expertise, volunteer work and leadership, and emotional education. For the past 8 years, Sunrin's specialized education program has spread out to various schools and has become a standard in the field of education. In particular, principal Kwang-Ho Cheon who served the school from 1999 to 2008 is a future-oriented educator who has greatly contributed to developing Sunrin Internet High School to the current status.

Principal Cheon thought that the only way to advance public education is to have capable teachers, and creative and professional school environment. Therefore, he fully supported the teachers' research activities and endlessly tried hard to create value from every corner of the school. Principal Cheon regarded students as clients and loved his school and students.
