A Social Activist Dedicated to Supporting Persons with Disabilities, Migrant Workers, and the Urban Poor for More Than 25 Years

Cheol-yong Lee, Co-recipient of the Service Award and President of the Camp Foundation, is a social activist who has devoted more than 25 years to improving the lives of marginalized communities, including persons with disabilities, migrant workers, and people living in poverty.

Since 2007, he has lived and worked alongside residents in impoverished communities in the Philippines, supporting their efforts toward sustainable self-reliance and community development. In particular, he has been actively engaged in the development of Towerville in Bulacan Province, one of the country's most representative urban poor communities, as well as disadvantaged rural areas. Through initiatives in employment creation, education, healthcare, agriculture, and renewable energy, he has helped build sustainable self-reliant communities that enable local residents to improve their quality of life.

Since 2011, he has supported female heads of households and local economic development through the establishment of IGTING, a social enterprise specializing in garment production in Bulacan Province. He has also contributed to empowering young people in Manila, Tarlac, and Davao in Mindanao by providing training in environmentally sustainable farming methods and supporting the production and marketing of high-value agricultural products.

Furthermore, by establishing agricultural cooperatives and various community-based organizations, he has introduced an innovative model of self-reliance-oriented development in impoverished regions of the Philippines. His work demonstrates how long-term partnership, community participation, and sustainable economic opportunities can create lasting social change and help vulnerable populations build a better future for themselves and their communities.
