Selection Procedure

Candidate recommenders

  • Science Prize
    • IndividualsThree experts in the same area of specialty must jointly recommend the candidate.
    • OrganizationsUniversity presidents, march center presidents, or academic society chairpersons may recommend the candidate.

  • Education Prize
    • IndividualsThree experts in the same area of specialty must jointly recommend the candidate.
    • OrganizationsChairpersons of educational institutions, educational administration institutes, corporations, civil groups,
      overseas Korean associations

  • Community Development and Philanthropy Prize
    • For Korean Candidates: Individuals and organization leaders.
    • For Non-Korean Candidate : Joint recommendation by at least 3 individuals or organization leaders.

  • Technology Prize
    • IndividualsThree experts in the same area of specialty must jointly recommend the candidate
    • OrganizationsCommercialized institute in companies or academic chief of universities and laboratories

  • Common facts
    • recommendation object : Individuals or organizations
    • All candidates must be alive as of the closing day of the recommendation process.

Technology Prize

  1. 1. Announcement of candidate recommendation guidelines (April)
    • The Foundation publishes notice about the prize in major Korean daily newspapers and also appoints experts to recommend potential candidates.
  2. 2. Reception of recommendations (May ~ September)
    • Submission Period From May 1st to September 30th

  3. 3. Candidate screening (October ~ December)
    • The candidate’s accomplishment are reviewed (document screening and field visits)
  4. 4. Announcement of prize winners (February)
    • The Foundation’s Board of Directors chooses and announces the final awardees
      via major Korean newspapers and the foundation’s website.
  5. 5. Prize presentation ceremony (Last Tuesday of March)

Prize Committee

Prize Committee
  • To ensure that the screening process is fair and transparent and that the POSCO TJ Park Prize's efforts are well-organized, the foundation appoints a Prize Committee, composed of eminent dignitaries who are highly respected by society, for each prize.
  • Each Prize Committee has a chairman and a maximum of six committee members.
Roles of the Prize Committee
  • The POSCO TJ Park Prize Committee acts independently in regard to all matters related to the operation of the prize.
    Roles performed by the committee include;
    • Organizing, discussing, and confirming core issues concerning the prize
    • Determining candidate’s qualification standard and recommending role
    • Choosing the two candidates (1st and 2nd place) through candidate screening, and presenting the screening results to the Foundation's Board of Directors
